Course Overview

Advanced STOPS Instructors Tactical Live Fire (1 Day)
Potential students attending this training must be certified as Strategies & Tactics of Patrol Stops Instructors. This advanced-level class will be physically and mentally challenging, requiring STOPS Instructors to overcome multiple obstacles to succeed.
What will the student learn?
- Analyze traffic stop approach patterns, focusing on how to use angles to counter potential assaults.
- Be aware of the environment and bystanders, including considerations of terrain and escape routes, while controlling the space around you.
- Learn strategies for escaping from ambush positions.
- Understand how to differentiate between a low-risk and an unknown-risk traffic stop.
- Know the proper placement of violators and backup units during stops
- Familiarize yourself with case law relevant to police use of force in vehicle stops.
What will the STOPS Instructor be required to do?
- Apply the tactics learned during STOPS certification to make effective shoot or don’t shoot decisions while managing fatigue and navigating a high-pressure training environment.
- Evaluate and adjust strategies for both Low-Risk and Unknown-Risk traffic stops.
- Develop the ability to confront single and multiple opponents in realistic scenarios using force-on-force training weapons.
- Maintain control during traffic stops while managing distractions from bystanders who may attempt to record or interfere with the situation.
- Consider multiple threats simultaneously and make split-second decisions that adhere to the Graham Standard of objectively reasonable force. This training method enhances the dynamic nature of real-world, high-stress situations.
- Examine personal mindsets to identify areas of hesitation, both physically and psychologically, during high-stress scenarios.
- Successfully address threats, gain compliance or control, and maintain situational awareness and mental clarity throughout practical exams
- This course is designed as a hands-on outdoor activity to keep students engaged and interested in learning concepts that will enhance their ability to identify criminal activity quickly and prepare for possible lethal force encounters.
- Officers are required to bring 100 rounds of target ammunition for their duty weapon.

Course Intensity
This course is highly advanced and will challenge students to consider their personal, physical, and psychological vulnerabilities, adapting to overcome any adversity or threats they encounter.
Physically Demanding
A.S.I.L.F. is a tactical course that will require high levels of physical exertion. You will leave dirty, exhausted, and ultimately fired up about what you just completed!
Mentally Challenging
This course will push students to engage both physically and mentally in challenging scenarios that may feel intense or overwhelming. They will learn techniques and develop mental mindsets to enhance their understanding of tactical responses to life-threatening situations.
Core Building
The students will be given proven techniques to counter assaults that will mentally and physically prepare them for victory in battle if implemented as instructed.

Course Accreditation/Certification/Completion
- The student will receive a certificate of course completion.
Course Hours
- (1 day) 7-hour course.
- No recertification is required.
Required Course Equipment
Attending students will need to be enrolled individually and online. The student must provide proof of employment by credentials, work-verified email, or authorization from their agency’s training coordinator. All students must be on duty and not forced to attend the training course. Students will be required to complete several liability waivers.
Students are required to bring the following equipment with them to class.
- 100 rounds of training ammo for their duty-issued handgun.
- Department-issued or approved bulletproof vest that is valid.
- OSHA approved Eye and ear protection.
- Duty positioning of their weapon, either full belt or side holster, must be what they wear daily. This training is designed to prepare them for how they may encounter assailants daily, so weapon placement during their tour of duty is required.
**No live weapons, chemical agents, or intermediate weapons are allowed in the training area before inspection and cleared by the range safety instructor**
